תלי
The Teli (תלי) literally meaning "Hanger" is the traditional Hebrew name for Polaris (the North Star).
Nachmanides states in his commentary to Devarim 18:9-12, that there are certain stars that are guided by archangels, and that these archangels are the souls of those planets. They are called the the Teli's Princes.
Similarly, the Teli is also mentioned by Rav Abraham Abulafia in Mafteach HaSh'mot as the "Spiritual Power" related to the constellation Draco (the Princes of the Teli). The angel of thr Teli is Abadon, HaShem's attribute of Justice. This "Power" of the Draco Archangels is supposed to have been the only name that Ha-Mitzri had discovered. It was ultimately also his own curse. The emphasis is that his power did not come from use of the actual Holy Name (and making a connection between Christianity and Draco). So, the Hanged one was Hung by the Hanger or in other words the Talui was Nital by the Teli.
Because Abadon is the Power of the Destroyer, Torah scholars practice Bittul Torah when the Teli appears furthest from the sun in the sky so as not to activate its power and repel the sun any further. Once the Teli has passed its apparent furthest repulsion of the sun the Tekufat of Tevet begins with Kalenda and a Torah Candle is lit at midnight for Torah study to commence and draw good forces again.
R. Avraham bar Chiya's Sefer Ha-Ibur notes that disciples of the Christian's Nittel took the day (which marks the return of the Teli at the start of Kalenda) to replace their previous heretical festival of inconquerable sun which had til then been observed at the time.
10th century Hai Gaon brought down that any water which was uncovered when the Teli appears to furthest repel the sun must be discarded and a fresh supply drawn. If one studies Torah before this time the Talui will return from the grave to warn you to stop and then will demand your offspring as payment for the lesson.
This is based on the fact that a Hanger (sling) is mentioned in Beresheit 27:3 as the power of Esav who is symbolized by Ha-Mitzri.
The root of the word is תָּלָה.
התלי is also mentioned in the Sefer Yetzirah 6:1.
The Serpent of this world protruded his head into Paradise out through the Teli.
There are many reasons that the Romans are associated with Edom. Job 26:13 and Isaiah 27:1 may also allude to this where Rashi mentions that the Romans are the Kittim which are called the Islands of the Sea. This commentary on Isaiah 27:1 refers to the head (chief) of the children of Esav situated in the heart of the seas (where the Kittim/Romams settled) as Tzor (the head of the Syrophoenecian Caleb which gains the Tzura by eating the Shirayim and compare with the Haverim feasting on the Leviathan in Job 41:6 and compare with Gog the Rosh who is granted a burrial place in Israel) which will ultimately be redeemed because the Rosh or Head of Esav lopped off by Hushiel ben Dan does find a place in the world to come.
